improving your experience
These are exciting times for orthopaedic surgery in Greater Manchester with the introduction of the MAKO robot, which will ensure that we have access to one of the world’s most advanced orthopaedic instruments
The MAKO robotic arm allows unparalleled accuracy when it comes to total hip replacement
Mr Alun Wall is one of only a few accredited MAKO surgeons in the region and a specialist hip surgeon
Restoration of an individual’s biomechanics, stability and accurate balancing of the newly implanted hip
HOW IT WORKS
We use a CT scan of the pelvis to obtain a three dimensional model of the hip. Images of the components are then superimposed into the model, enabling a very detailed plan of the operation to be made, which is specific to the anatomy seen.
We can then plan not only the specific component sizes required but also their exact position. During the procedure we use this plan and the robotic arm to position the components precisely.
